Maroon Dam

This central earth core and rockfill structure, situated on Burnett Creek approximately 25km above its confluence with the Logan River, permitted expansion of irrigation along Burnett Creek and the Logan River for about 130km downstream of the dam.  This more than doubled the existing area being irrigated to construction of the dam.  Recreation facilities also make the area around the dam a popular tourist attraction.

Lake Maroon and the recreation area are currently open for all permitted recreation activities.

Maroon Dam –Safety Upgrade (Stage 1)

Seqwater plans to upgrade Maroon Dam during 2012 to 2013 to meet requirements identified from a Safety Review conducted in 2010. The upgrade will comply with Queensland Guidelines on Acceptable Flood Capacity (AFC). Work will be undertaken to investigate the embankment foundation and overall stability, and construct a concrete parapet wall across the crest of the dam.

Investigation works will be carried out on the dam site between January and June 2012. Construction work is expected to begin in January 2013 and be completed by July 2013. Please note that these dates are subject to change as the project develops.
