Hinze Dam

Hinze Dam was originally constructed in 1976 and was raised in 1989. Finalised in late 2011, the $395 million Hinze Dam Stage Three upgrade saw the dam wall raised by 15 metres, doubling the dam’s capacity and providing increased water security and flood mitigation.

Facilities include a state-of-the-art Interpretive Centre, lakeside parks, walking, bike and horse trails, ample car parking, toilet facilities and barbeque areas for public use.

Recreation facilities update (Friday, 5 April 2013)

Hinze Dam  and the recreation area are currently open, except for the eastern recreation trail.

The new cross-country mountain bike track at Hinze Dam (the “Peter Hallinan Mountain Bike Track”) is open to the public from Saturday, 6 April 2013. Access to the mountain bike track is available via the dam wall, with car parking available in the main recreation area at the end of Advancetown Road.

Visitors should be aware that the front gates to the main recreation area at Hinze Dam are locked from 6.00 pm each night, and visitors need to depart from the site before the gates are locked.

The Eastern Boat ramp remains temporarily closed as a result of damage to the access road caused by the recent extreme weather event. The Western boat ramp is available during opening hours for launching of permitted vessels (note – fuel-powered vessels are not permitted on the lake).

Eastern recreation trail at Hinze Dam closed (Updated Tuesday, 26 March 2013)

The main recreation trail on the eastern side of Lake Advancetown will remain closed until further notice. The closure is the necessary due to flooding as a result of the increased capacity resulting from the raising of the Hinze Dam wall. Please monitor this website for updates on the status of the trail.
