Welcome to the new Seqwater website. Here you will find information about our business – catching, storing and treating water to meet the needs of South East Queensland, one of the fastest growing regions in Australia.
With the population of South East Queensland expected to grow from 2.7 million to at least 4 million by 2026, sustainable and reliable water supply is critical to support the strong and dynamic economy that underpins this growth.
While recent record-breaking drought conditions appear to have eased, our precious water resources face increasing demands from community, industry and agriculture.
At the same time, we recognise the importance of protecting our natural resources, ensuring minimum flows to support environmental values, and further strengthening our commitment to sustainability based on a whole of catchment approach from source to supply.
This involves achieving long-term water security through integrated catchment management that supports energy, industry, environment and social outcomes that maximise water quality and yield.
Looking to the immediate future our task will be to ensure that the new water grid operating arrangements work smoothly and efficiently by:
- collaborating with all water grid entities to provide levels of service and improve water delivery to the community
- responding decisively to the challenge of sustainability
- establishing the knowledge and technologies for efficient, effective and integrated whole-of-catchment management
- diversifying products and services to maximise the whole-of-water-use cycle performance of catchment assets and capabilities.
In the long term, we will work to ensure the security and sustainability of our region’s catchment-based water supply.

We’re bringing together our people, our processes and our systems to form a cohesive entity focused on working co-operatively with other Water Grid entities that make up the Queensland Government’s South East Queensland Water Supply Grid, to deliver the required levels of service for the community.
Our ‘Water for Life’ logo reflects our expanded role in water delivery in the region – from catchments, to storage and treatment. It is also our vision to create vibrant, sustainable and optimistic urban and rural communities and businesses both now and into the future.
We hope the Seqwater web site provides you with a greater understanding of the significant challenges we face as well as the many innovative solutions and collaborative approaches we are developing to deliver long-term water security for South East Queensland.
